Fueling the Next Generation of Local Entrepreneurs 

The San Angelo Business Plan Competition is more than an annual contest --- it's a catalyst for business success. The two-phase competition is designed to fuel the next generation of entrepreneurs with more than just funding. It also provides the tools, mentorship, and exposure needed to take small businesses to the next level.

Hosted by the ASU Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the City of San Angelo Development Corporation, and community partners, this high-impact program delivers hands-on guidance, valuable business insights, and the opportunity to win up to $50,000 in cash grants, plus thousands more in in-kind services.

This competition offers far more than prize money. Participating entrepreneurs gain:

  • A fully executable business plan crafted with expert support 

  • One-on-one guidance from Certified Business Advisors 

  • Hands-on assistance with financial projections and presentations 

  • Real-world experience and additional support from Angelo State University student teams

Prize Structure

  • First Place: $50,000 cash grant
  • Second Place: $30,000 cash grant
  • Third Place: $20,000 cash grant
  • Plus: Thousands in in-kind business services donated by local businesses

This support reflects a shared commitment to strengthening San Angelo’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and investing in job creation, innovation, and business diversity. 

How It Works

  • Businesses submit an application and brief business summary

  • No-cost assistance is available from SBDC advisors to help prepare

  • Finalists work with SBDC and student advisors to craft: 

  • A full business plan 

  • Financial projections and assumptions 

  • A formal pitch presentation to a panel of judges 

Finalists gain practical experience, expert insights from seasoned business leaders, and meaningful connections within San Angelo's entrepreneurial community.
